From the Ground to the Crown-The Descendants of Oyo Demaree
From the tribe of Yoruba comes the history of a family whose roots can be trace back to the 17th century, to a Virginia plantation owned by John Lear. His slave, John Demaree sued for his freedom and set the standard for his family for two centuries to come. This is the history of the descendant of John Demaree, the son of Oyo and Fido Lear Demaree. With his wife, Bridget, and five children, the Demaree Family became a free family of North Carolina in 1711. In 1810, his great grandson, Joseph Dimry was born. He married Sarah Mitchell and they had six cildren. With the birth of Adriana and her marriage to George Rawls, they had a daughter, Minnie, who married, Jessie Burton Parker, Sr. Emma Elizabeth, their eldest daughter married Dorphus Gary, an Irish and Cherokee man, having 16 children. The third child, Roger Gary is the main character of the history of my maternal grandfather's side of the family-The Demaree-Demory-Parker-Moody-Rival-Gary Family of North Carolina, Virginia, Ohio, and Indiana ( 1685-2014)
